Day -1

He's in the thick of it now. Literally.

It's the day before Dominic gets his bone marrow transplant. On the weekend he received what we hope is the last of his chemotherapy, but they saved the harshest drugs for last.

So far he's handled it well, coming down with a minor fever that went away and losing his appetite. He'll receive the NG feeding tube later today.

This morning he went for full body radiation. He went again this afternoon. Since he'd been four times already for head radiation Trish knew what to expect, but this time was different.

In order to evenly spread the radiation throughout his body, Dom was covered in gel packs. It's like being buried in sand at the beach, but with a different sort of ray beaming down on you.

It's not easy to see but remember that he was put to sleep for the procedure. You can't tell a 16-month-old to stay still for a half hour.
Suffice to say, it's not shaping up to be a fun week. But we are ready for it, and so is our team. Family is going to help relieve us so we can keep our rest, and there's even a nurse solely assigned to Dominic today. Plus I get to come to Calgary a day earlier than usual.

There are long days ahead. We're going to get through it together.
